Intuit's success is largely based on a concept called "Customer-Driven Invention" which is about finding important customer problems today that we can solve well, and then building a durable competitive advantage. This concept isn't limited, however, to software development.

Sales Professionals at Intuit discuss with customers potential problems which we can solve well with our current product and service offerings. Perhaps someone is ready to upgrade to a more comprehensive financial management solution based on the changing needs of their growing business. Perhaps a competitive product isn't quite meeting a customer's needs based on cost or ease-of-use. Maybe a customer is ready to transition from paper and pencil to an online solution. Imagine how meaningful it is when you can provide someone with a solution which saves them money or gives them more free time! Every situation is different and it's all about identifying needs and business solutions.

We approach Sales in different ways. It may involve taking "inbound" calls from customers inquiring about our products and services. It may involve making outbound calls to prospective customers who we think may have a problem we can help to solve. Current customers are the source of many sales as well as they upgrade from one of our financial management solutions to another.

As much as it is problem-solving, it's also generating revenue and meeting performance quotas through "up-selling" and "cross-selling" using defined sales standards. Integrity and customer service are keys to success along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Sales professionals identify the profiles and needs of our customers, and offer appropriate solutions such as new products and/or support services while managing heavy call volumes. We also provide valuable feedback to marketing and sales management based on what we learn from our customer relationships.

While Sales training is definitely provided, prior experience in telemarketing, sales and/or customer service is a big help. A high school diploma is required and prior sales experience highly desirable. Accounting and financial management knowledge and/or experience are a plus as well, along with experience with computer software. Of course, self-motivation and initiative are keys to success.
