SQL Server DBA

The Software Giant in Redmond, Washington is seeking a strong Database Administrator (SQL Server DBA) to provide production SQL Server database support as well as physical database design, performance tuning, troubleshooting, error handling and hardware planning. Although the primary emphasis is on finding the right match in technical skills, with a particular emphasis on the depth of SQL knowledge and experience, the successful candidate will also have sound communication and customer-relation skills. This DBA must also be able to work well with various teams on infrastructure, network, site operations and engineering.

Every full time employee on the team started out as a contractor. There is the possibility of conversion to full-time and there is no maximum end date or break in service requirement.

SQL Server Deployment and Maintenance Responsibilities:
Install, setup, and configure SQL server (SQL 7, SQL 2000, or SQL 2005 beta), log-shipping, replication, high-availability SQL configuration, SQL cluster, SQLMail and etc
Perform routine SQL maintenance includes Backup, Restore, setupconfigure SQL jobs, setupconfigure SQL maintenance plan, DTS, BCP, and etc.
Apply patches and hot-fixes in multiple servers environment
Design, implement and maintain Disaster Recovery Plan
SQL server troubleshooting skills such as performance issues, database or index tuning, troubleshooting blocking issues, deadlocking issues

Requirements:



Required Skills for this DBA include the following:

1-2 years experience in:
Customer Service skills
Written and oral communication skills2-3 years experience in:

MS Windows NT OS
SQL Server Design and Development
SQL Server backup/recovery strategies
Distributed databases, data migration and security
Certification (MCSE 2000 or MCSE 2003, MCDBA)
Experience with SQL Blocker scripts, SQLDiag, PSSDiag, ClusDiag, Perfmon, MPSReports and etc will be appreciated
Experience with VLDB is a plus
Experience with Full-text Indexing and Search in SQL 2000 is a plus

Other Platform technologies (Preferred):
MUST have Experience with Windows 2000 or Windows 2003
IIS6 setup and configuration preferred
Setup and Configure website in IIS5 or IIS6
Configure and setup web-farm using NLB, or WLBS. Experience with Application Center 2000 is preferred
Configure SSL on IIS5 or IIS6 (andor SQL server)
Experience on configure, setup, and deploy SharePoint Portal Server 2003 is definitely a plus

Other complimentary skills (Preferred):
Network connectivity troubleshooting such as DNS name resolution, WINS name resolution, TCPIP, IP subnetting, IP routing
Other network services such as PKI, Active Directory, etc
Understanding of extranetintranet configuration
Server configuration with multi-home network connections for high performance, segmentation and availability
Experience in deploying and using SQLlitespeed

Additional Requirements:
Ability to work overtimes when required (5-10 hours per week).
At times, flexible with work hours.
