Route/Switch Network Engineer (positions for DC area and Travel)
SMS Data Products Group,Inc., a 30-year-old network services provider headquartered in McLean, VA, is looking for several candidates with a strong routing/switching background for network engineer positions at the Pentagon, and the DC metropolitan area.
Required Skills:
At least 3-5 years of hands-on experience in installing and configuring routing, switching and other network equipment and a thorough background in and understanding of network design and integration, from small single site LAN to multiple site WAN, is required.
Experience with Cisco routers, switches, VPN Devices, Authentication Control Servers, and Access Servers that include the 3500, 4000, 5000, 5500, and 6500 series switches, IOS VPN routers, all main line routers from the 2500 to the 7513 series platforms, Cisco VPN concentrators in client access and “LAN to LAN” mode. OSPF, BGP, and other routing protocols
Experience in gathering and analyzing customer requirements, conducting site surveys, performing network bandwidth and capacity planning, developing network architectural designs, and providing cost justification is preferred.
Strong experience in deploying and administering network security devices such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems and Virtual Private Network concentrators is a plus.
Strong written and oral presentation skills are required. The ability to interpret and communicate technical requirements and cost/benefits tradeoff analyses to non-technical executive level customers is a must.
Industry certifications are highly desired. Cisco certification at the CCNA, CCNP (routing and Switching), Juniper, Extreme, and/or CISSP and other IT security certifications are a plus.

Health and Dental Beginning on the first day of employment, group medical and dental insurance is available to all full-time SMS employees. Employees may select additional family (dependent, spouse) coverage as an option.
Benefits of the medical plan include a prescription drug plan, preventive care for specified routine physicals and well baby care. The dental plan offers routine oral exams twice a year, prophylaxis, and X-rays paid at 100% with no deductible. Pre-existing illness limitations are specified in the plan.
PPO medical coverage is provided by the United Healthcare network. Guardian Insurance Company provides the coverage for the dental plan. Specific details of the plan are available in the Human Resources Department.
Life Insurance SMS provides, at no cost to the employee, a life insurance policy equal to the employee’s annual earnings to a maximum of $150,000. Optional supplemental life insurance is also available.
401(k) Plan All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) savings plan, with semi-monthly enrollment opportunities. SMS will match a percentage of the employee contribution.
Short Term Disability Short-term disability, which provides income during periods of disability, is available to each employee on a graduated scale depending on length of service to a maximum of six months.
Long Term Disability A long-term disability policy is provided at no cost to the employee. The policy provides 60% of an employee’s basic monthly salary to a maximum of $10,000 per month during extended illnesses of more than six months.
Education SMS reimburses employees of tuition charges to a maximum of $3,000 per year for approved courses taken at accredited colleges and universities. The reimbursement scale is based upon the grade received in the class (A=100%, B=85%, C=70%).
Holidays SMS observes nine holidays a year. All full-time employees receive a full days pay for each of these holidays.
Personal Leave SMS has a flexible personal leave policy which provides paid leave for absences due to vacation or illness. Full-time employees accrue paid personal leave at a rate of 16 days per year. Personal leave may be taken as soon as it is accrued by the employee.
Direct Deposit Payroll Employees may choose to have their paychecks deposited in a checking or savings account with the financial institution of their choice.
