Mid-Level Wetland Ecologist
Job
This job will require the development and implementation of wetland inventories, site investigations, and mitigation plans related to private and public sector projects in the Pacific Northwest. Work will involve aerial photo interpretation, baseline studies, environmental assessments, wetland delineations, mitigation opportunities and constraints analysis, and monitoring associated with wetlands, aquatic systems, and riparian habitats. Experience should include project management, technical analysis, ability to plan and direct field studies, and preparation of deliverables. A working knowledge of the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act (ESA), NEPA, SEPA, and other regulations affecting wetlands and aquatic systems is required. Excellent written and verbal communications skills and experience with MS Word, Excel, database management, GPS, and GIS also are required.
Accountabilities
The candidate will serve as technical lead on field efforts involving wetland resources and will be capable of presenting results in formal settings. The candidate will be a skilled field biologist capable of managing teams of biologists, maintaining field equipment, and communicating effectively with clients and agency representatives.
REQUIREMENTS
BS in wetland ecology or related natural sciences as applied to the Pacific Northwest. A minimum 7 years experience involving private sector environmental consulting or natural resource management is essential. An applied knowledge of wetland sciences or aquatic/terrestrial ecology is desired based on experience in the Pacific Northwest and other bioregions of the western U.S. Demonstrated skills including field research, botanical surveys, soils and groundwater investigations, habitat and vegetation mapping, technical analysis (including use of GPS and GIS), and data management are essential. Experience should include NEPA and/or SEPA compliance and consultations involving the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, and state/local agencies that administer wetlands regulations.
