Job Summary:
•Manages and directs the life underwriting functions and staff
•Evaluate and approve applications for individual life insurance
•Provides direction to assess mortality and morbidity risk within corporate guidelines
•Develops staff members to classify, approve, or decline applications for insurance
•Evaluation of medical history, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest
•World class underwriting for the top agents in the captive agency distribution channel

Functional Responsibilities:
Manages and directs the life underwriting functions (25 Underwriters)
Evaluate and approve applications, individual life insurance generated by high-producers Underwriting caseload of unique or complex cases for life new business
Provides high level of customer services to designated top producers
Assign competitive rates, advise alternatives in situations where client is unable to issue
Approve life contracts through $10,000,000

Supervisory Responsibilities: Has full people management responsibilities including staffing, performance management, development and training needs. (25 Underwriters)
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
•10+ Years of overall experience in underwriting
•At least 3 years experience managing professional underwriting staff.
•Expert knowledge of underwriting principles including mortality and insurable interest
•Understanding of life insurance products, services and overall insurance industry
•Strong math skills for determining mortality, financial underwriting and risk classification
•Understanding of medical terminology, human biology and anatomy
•Strong Customer Service orientation in working with life insurance producers
•Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to negotiate effectively
•Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize complex assignments
•Excellent decision making ability
•Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
•Registered principle and NASD Series 26 preferred
