Loss Control Consultant, Senior

Under general supervision, perform insurance loss prevention surveys and underwriting surveys normally on largest, most complex risks, as well as other work assigned to service, to develop permanent self-controlled loss prevention programs for insurers, assist with risk selection, and attain risk improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Execute underwriting and consulting loss prevention surveys at insurers' premises. Develop in-depth and meaningful loss prevention program recommendations based on observations made during the survey. Communicate and explain recommendations and results of observations to the insured while on location; motivate the insured to comply.

Write technical reports and related correspondence. Communicate results of surveys, including recommendations regarding the insured's unique loss problems, loss exposures and maintenance of self-control programs. Emphasize management controls for loss exposures and program improvements.

Schedule survey appointments. Independently plan travel route and prepare itinerary. Prepare expense reports weekly. Prepare other reports as required.

Assist in retention of existing accounts and attracting new business, by providing a professional loss prevention consulting service. Assist other functional departments, and provide input to department procedures.

Conduct training sessions for the insured. Instruct insured in accident investigation and other techniques to introduce a self-controlled loss prevention program. Assist in training and development for Loss Prevention Department staff. Review various trade journals and manuals to further professional self-development.

Research and plan prior to the survey. Review insurers' claim and loss prevention files, and "Best's Loss Control Engineering Guide" to identify potential areas of concern for each risk. Develop creative loss control programs to be permanently maintained by insurers.
