IP Procurement Counsel

Business Unit: GE HealthcareFunction: LegalResponsibilities: GE Healthcare (GEHC) has an open position for Intellectual Property Procurement Counsel with a chemical engineering background. The IP Procurement Counsel will work with the Sr. IP Procurement Counsel to develop and implement the IP procurement system for GE Healthcare Technologies, including all patents, copyrights and trademarks.
Key responsibilities include the following: Close work with GEHC Technologies marketing and engineering functions to develop an IP portfolio that will facilitate organic and inorganic growth of the GEHC product and service portfolios; this will be accomplished by conducting brainstorming sessions, drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and actively managing prosecution of all key applications.
The person in this position will work primarily with GEHC products and services having chemical and/orLifesciences components, such as products or services in the PET, Nuclear, radiopharmaceutical, etc. fields. Such products will also typically have electrical, software and/or mechanical components.
Help to perform clearance for new product introductions, and formulate non-infringement and/or invalidity positions as necessary
Work with the Patent Evaluation Boards to review invention disclosures, and with GE International Patent Operations to maximize the scope of GEHC's international patents.
Follow six sigma IP practices and procedures to create, protect and administer IP rights and avoid infringement of IP rights of others.
Manage IP in a manner consistent with GEHC objectives, to have a positive impact on the bottom-line from both a defensive and offensive perspective while simultaneously driving for increased levels of productivity
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: - A degree in Chemical Engineering, or a minimum two (2) years experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the chemical arts.
A member in good standing of the bar of any state, and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
Demonstrated expert knowledge & command of IP law and patent preparation and prosecution, with a minimum of two (2) years of practice.
Experience in handling a wide variety of IP procurement matters including formulating & implementing IP procurement strategy & procedure, reviewing invention disclosures and conducting brainstorming sessions, preparing and filing patent applications, appealing adverse patentability decisions, initiating and assisting in interference and opposition matters, and training paralegals and administrators to help with the above tasks

The ability to quickly identify and prioritize issues, and create solutions
Demonstrated strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to effectively work with team members and all levels of managementDesired: - Preferably green-belt certified or knowledge of six sigma tools and processes
