INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CONSULTANT

The Information Technology Consultant assumes a major leadership role in connection with computer technology and its application to instruction and college administration. Works with faculty, college administrators and staff to determine the most effective and efficient use of technology to enhance instruction and college/dept. administration; identifies required resources; researches and analyzes new and emerging technologies with diverse applications; assists college administrators as needed with long-term planning in connection with computer technology. Maintains and secures the College computer laboratories; responsible for Site and Network Administration and security; trains student workers to assist with maintenance of computer lab and with providing technical support to faculty and students who use the lab, as well as faculty and staff with computer workstations; leads and provides input to their performance. Provides desktop support to administrators, faculty and staff in the College; serves as a liaison between the College of Agriculture and the information systems resources staff and other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Educational Technology or a related field AND two (2) to four (4) years’ of related experience and active problem solving. A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of required experience. Additional professional experience which demonstrates the acquisition and successful application of the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a diverse student, faculty and staff population. Ability to concentrate and sit in front of a computer for extended periods. Proficiency with standard IT products including MS Windows, Work, Excel, PowerPoint and basic microcomputer usage.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience in a university environment. Minimum of four (4) years of professional level experience working with information, instructional technology. Experience managing medium to large technical projects. Possess a working knowledge of Windows OS’s, Windows Servers and Unix Servers, mainframe systems and other operating systems. Working knowledge of PC Desktops, Mac Desktop, network environments, diagnostic and system monitoring tools, networking procedures and software applications. General understanding of routers, switches, and working knowledge of general e-mail servers and clients along with internet knowledge. Knowledge of data backup and recovery procedures, along with the ability to develop and maintain policies, procedures and contingency plans for the College of Agriculture. Knowledge and experience in maintaining network and server/desktop security. Experience maintaining Windows domain/active directory services and active directory global polices.
