HM Benefit Plan Consultant Experienced
Primary Work Responsibilities
Specializes in the operations and administration of group health and welfare benefit plans
Works primarily with the DGM, plan management, and participant services UMs
Assists TBA team with OPE initiatives, suggests process improvements based on review of procedures
Reviews team procedures for potential compliance issues, works with TBA team and TBA legal to resolve issues and limit liability
May be assigned to new client implementations and assists with writing of plan provisions and benefits manual
Assists Connections in resolving carrier eligibility issues
Becomes familiar with all aspects of the carriers utilized by the client and industry events that impact the carrier or the client
Performs client-specific training and also is the instructor for one or more core courses such as Retiree Basics, Medicare Basics, Section 125, etc.
Reviews workflows for accuracy and provides additional training necessary to improve quality
Helps educate the team on Best Practices and helps implement best practice processes
Knowledgeable about and able to use eTBA tools and HM consulting tools
Reviews communication pieces for accuracy and consistency with TBA procedures
Acts as a mentor to less experienced associates, including PMs and UMs
Reviews new legislation for client impact and consults with client regarding required changes (i.e., Section 125)
Works on special projects for client team or out-of-scope projects
Suggests areas to explore to extend and expand consulting work for the client
Relationships
TBA team: DGM, H&GB plan management and participant services UMs
Client interaction: Medium contact with client. Viewed as H&GB subject matter expert by client contacts. Builds relationship with key client contacts
Vendor interaction: Contact with carrier claims and/or account management
Builds working relationship with HM design consultants and other HM shared services (i.e., Connections, HHR, HHVE, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS
Experience Requirements/Recruiting and Technical Knowledge
Must have 6 to 12 years of benefit administration experience:
A minimum of 5 years external health plan administration work with a carrier in claims administration, management, provider relations, or account management; or
A minimum of 5 years external health plan administration in the HR department of a large employer; or
A minimum of 2 years in the BPC entry role working with multiple client teams
Must have demonstrated ability to manage large complex projects
Subject matter expertise knowledge of health and welfare plans: Medical, Dental, Vision, Rx, MH/CD, STD, LTD, Life, AD&D, FSA, etc.
Extensive knowledge of health and welfare legislation: COBRA, ERISA, Section 125, HIPAA, etc.
Complete knowledge of eligibility business rules
Working knowledge of TBA H&GB best practices
