Educational Advisor Part-Time .87 FTE (2 Positions)

JOB SUMMARY: To provide academic advising, recruitment, assessment, orientation, and other related services in order to facilitate the personal growth and educational success of students. Essential Functions: Advise students in all phases of educational planning, including program and course information, scheduling, registration, transfer requirements, articulations, and graduation requirements; keep students informed of their standing in relation to meeting graduation requirements and transfer/articulation to other schools. Provide information and reference materials on college majors and careers and the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities required. Advise students regarding their special needs, identify support service needs, and provide service or refer to appropriate service providers. Interpret admission entrance test results and assist students in the selection of appropriate course work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree plus two years work experience in advising, recruitment, admissions or related. Significant public interaction. Knowledge of current college educational and student services procedures and policies. Ability to interact effectively, courteously, and impartially with a diverse student and staff population. Strong communication skills (written and oral). Demonstrated effectiveness working with populations having diverse values, and/or coming from varied cultures and backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Postsecondary education from a community college. Work experience as described above with in an educational institution especially in a post secondary setting. Knowledge of community college philosophy and mission.
