Consulting Systems Engineer

Highly technical sales support position focusing on databases and SAN helping NetApp sales penetrate into the large enterprise and named accounts as a preferred storage platform for database and business applications. The architect will work to provide Sales support primarily, but will also work cross-functionally with other parts of NetApp’s organization including Product Marketing, Services, and Engineering on the company’s future strategies related to the area of databases and business solutions. The person will be expected to drive virtual team activities and be a self starter. The person in this role may also work closely with the field of respective database vendor organizations such as Oracle and Microsoft as required to achieve our corporate goals.

Essential Functions:

Work closely with NetApp sales as a consultant to understand customer storage requirements for database applications.
Perform sizing, consultative selling of storage architecture and solutions to database customers.
Help design, architect and validate NetApp storage solutions for database applications.
Understand and present NetAp database value proposition to prospect and customers.
Educate SE’s about databases and business applications.
Help maintain technological edge with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2.
Participate in customer evaluations and proof of concepts for deploying Oracle/MS SQL Server/DB2 on NetApp in NAS/SAN configurations.
Work closely with NetApp Database business Unit to identify enhancements to NetApp products and software to better suit database applications.
Work with customers and NGS to enhance NetApp technologies and services.
Participate in customer executive briefing and tradeshow speaking opportunities.
Help enhance the databases on NetApp best practices for deployment.
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:

Strong familiarity of storage networking environments, SAN/NAS, especially around Oracle/MS SQL Server database deployments.
Sizing of storage for database applications (Oracle/MS SQL Server/DB2).
Consultative selling of database architectures and storage.
Strong working knowledge and administration experience in Oracle/MS SQL Server preferred.
Understanding of database performance analysis and troubleshooting of enterprise data storage systems.
Ability to communicate storage related technology and business issues with customers and partners.
Strong working knowledge of file systems, operating systems (Solaris/Linux/HP-UX/Windows) and, storage technologies Channel networking is also required while previous experience with disaster recovery solutions, business continuance, Nearline storage, and/or data replication software would be highly desirable.
Working knowledge of Veritas File/Volume Manager and/or Veritas Foundation Suite for Oracle/DB2 is desired.
Candidate must have strong technical and project management skills and must be able to work cross-functionally with other development teams and partner organizations.
Must clearly demonstrate superb speaking and writing ability. Mandatory: examples of significant papers or other written documents on Database technologies/SAN/iSAN related subjects authored by the candidate must be submitted.
Professional Certification in Oracle/MS SQL Server highly desired.
2+ years experience in consulting is desired not mandatory.
10+ years industry experience in database and storage technologies.

BS or equivalent industry experience
