Associate General Counsel- Edina, MN

This position will provide legal counsel and expertise to UnitedHealth Group and affiliated business segments. This individual will frequently interact with company senior leaders and/or outside counsel on complex issues having impact across UnitedHealth Group organization entities. Responsibilities include:


Handling complex legal projects


Evaluating and determining appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit needs


Guiding, training and assisting others on legal issues


Providing support to National Credentialing Center, regional Quality Committees and staff


Assisting Medical Technology Assessment Committee with medical policy development


Offering legal and regulatory advice regarding utilization management activities


Reviewing physician and non-physician sanctions from licensing boards and support physician outlier management activities


Supporting benefit interpretation and product development organizations


Negotiating, interpreting and drafting contracts




Job Requirements:


Juris Doctorate degree


At least five years of legal experience


Demonstrated understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projects.


Strong understanding of managed care industry is required


Well developed written and verbal communications skills


Ability to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit needs


Excellent presentation skills


Understanding of benefit disputes


Understanding of medical policy development
