GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY, a unit of the University System of Georgia, with an enrollment of approximately 16,646 students, invites applicants for the following vacancies: Academic Advisor (Req. #001378) College of Science and Technology. Provide students with in-depth information concerning course descriptions, prerequisites, and registration procedures; assisting in developing academic schedules; counseling students facing academic problems; reviewing and requesting transcripts; performing preliminary evaluation of transfer credits; conducting summer orientation sessions and participating in SOAR (Freshman Orientation and Advising Sessions) activities. Position requires some evening and weekend work and traveling on occasion. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree; one or more years' related higher education experience; effective communication (verbal and written), organization, and human relations skills; proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment. Preferred Qualifications: Previous academic advisement experience; knowledge of BANNER and Crystal Reports; ability to work with diverse populations. Minimum Requirements: Master's degree (a higher level of experience required can substitute for some of the education); Three to five years' related experience; effective communication (verbal and written), organization, and human relations skills; proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment. Preferred Qualifications: Previous academic advisement experience; experience with assessment; supervisory and budgeting experience; knowledge of BANNER and Crystal Reports; ability to work with diverse populations.
