Job Summary and Mission

This job contributes to Starbucks success by leading divisional teams in managing store construction for Retail North America. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership - Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.Supports the implementation of company programs to ensure the success of the Company.Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
Communicates and supports Company construction standards in the division.Contributes to human resource allocation planning for store construction and renovation.Contributes to the development of the annual operating plan and budget, and quarterly forecast updates.Engages in the budget development cycle for new store construction.Ensures consistency of execution, process and construction standards across the division.Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization in conjunction with the Construction Standards & Services department. Acts as advocate for balance and focus between construction, real estate and design teams.Provides recommendations to the Construction Standards department regarding field issues and requests.Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
Acts as a technical expert for construction contract negotiations with market specific general contractors, in coordination with the Construction Standards & Services department. Troubleshoots and manages architectural and engineering contracts with market specific architects, engineers and expeditors.Conducts site visits to evaluate team performance.Develops internal relationships across departments in order to ensure coordination of construction-related functions.Ensures consistent tracking of project costs through active participation in the Accounts Payable workflow. Participates in the mitigation of liabilities such as construction liens, labor issues and insurance claims.Improves, monitors and guides bidding effectiveness and potential new General Contractor resources.Oversees management of vendor relationships and contract performance for outsourced construction services in coordination with the Construction Standards & Services department.Oversees the analysis, monitoring and reporting of regional construction costs and trends. Participates in change order approvals.Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.
