Job Description

TITLE: Wall Panel Designer/EstimatorCLASSIFICATION: Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Design DepartmentREPORTS TO: Design Manager
DATE: December, 1997SUPERVISES: N/A
DATE REVISED: February, 2006

Basic Function and Responsibilities
Convert sales orders into usable wall panel drawings (including approval drawings, layouts and shop cutting) through effective communication, cooperation and technical ability

Essential Functions
·Design/estimate all assigned jobs (layouts; cutting lists; material lists; files; etc.) according to plan and bid specifications, quote and shipping restrictions
·Take initiative to solve problems for internal and paying customers via efficient troubleshooting, effective plan reading, communication of issues to appropriate people and documentation of solutions
·Ensure economical and proper use of materials according to current inventory levels and material costs
·Complete all assigned jobs to meet current drafting schedule
·Ensure efficient production according to plant capabilities through proper design and adequate notation
·Maintain detailed records and reports of related information on a job-to-job basis

Additional Functions
·Consistently demonstrate an effort to maintain an efficient and organized working atmosphere
·Provide efficient, accurate and economical resolutions of customer complaints
·Minimize operating expenses through proficient drafting procedures
·Perform truss estimates or bids as needed
·Effectively communicate with other team members as necessary (Design Manager, design colleagues, salespeople, manufacturing and shipping personnel)
·Promote a unified approach to meeting challenges through effective cooperation with all SCS team members
·Perform other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
·Two year degree in architectural drafting or related field is preferred
·Skill in architectural plan reading (visualization)
·Knowledge of or ability to learn computer programs run by SCS design (Outlook, Auto CAD, Intellibuild, etc.)
·Skill in communication and cooperation with people
·Ability to perform successfully under pressure and deadlines
·Ability to quickly adapt between job functions
·Knowledge of or ability to learn construction technology and terms
·Knowledge of or ability to learn engineering fundamentals
·Knowledge of or ability to learn SCS procedures and WTCA industry standards

Education & Training Required
·Two year degree in architectural drafting or related field is preferred
·Proficient in intermediate algebra
·Basic geometry and trigonometry
·Truss fabrication or design experience preferred but not required
·Experience in wood frame construction preferred but not required

Work Environment & Physical Demands
·The work environment is one of continuous interruptions and considerable time constraints.
·Work hours are often seasonal, requiring evening and/or weekend work for limited periods of time
·Sitting for long periods of time
·Continuous use of computers (keyboard, mouse, monitor)
·Eye strain from working on computer for long periods of time
