Supervisor - Civil Engineering

To provide the technical design/development support and leadership required in the areas of plant/project civil engineering, equipment installations, utilities, real estate and hospitality construction. Act as Project Engineer/Manager or direct the work of other engineers in these areas. Draw on the technical competency of the Facilities Engineering Department and outside consultants to design, detail, and install building systems and equipment.Provide engineering expertise to Project Managers on all major projects. Responsible for developing feasibility studies, creating project timelines, developing plans and specifications, creating cost estimates, installing building systems, developing punch lists, troubleshooting, and project close-out. These functions are on a global scale and the supervisor shall be personally responsible for construction budgets. Typically, these budgets are in excess of $10,000,000 annually. International travel to remote locations in developing countries is required.Mentor the Civil Engineering staff to assure state-of-the-art technology applications. In addition, the Supervisor schedules project work to provide maximum utilization of human and financial resources.Ability to create and effectively communicate complex engineering concepts/proposals to various levels of management and external business/government contacts.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIESSupervisionDirect the work of the Civil Engineers, Structural Engineers, Architects, Surveyors, CAD Drafters and Co-op Students in the Facilities Engineering Department.Investigates problems described in work requests and assigns personnel to perform the design of the project.Supervises the overall design of projects.Provides appropriate engineering technology support to the Civil Staff.Recruits, monitors, evaluates, motivates and develops performance of the Civil Staff.Provides and tracks appropriate training needs of the Civil Staff.ConsultingInvestigates project needs to define direction of effort.Ability to review and interpret domestic and international Codes and Standards.Develops feasibility and design studies.Conveys preliminary solutions, cost and time estimates to appropriate personnel.Design/EngineeringReviews potential solutions, perform risk analysis and provide alternatives.Use sound engineering practices to develop a detailed engineering solution.Coordinates the efforts of the various departmental disciplines and other non-company personnel to develop the project solution.Contacts vendors and manufacturers to obtain information on, and prices of, equipment.Develops detailed engineering specifications and CAD drawings, obtains bids and prepares ACT's when appropriate.Estimates complete costs of projects.Develops project schedules.Maintains appropriate records.InstallationIssues work orders/purchase orders to the various crafts/contractors for fabrication and installation.Coordinates fabrication of parts and installation of equipment with Powerhouse, Maintenance, and Production supervision.Supervises installation of projects.Tests new equipment at start-up.Evaluates and recommends approval of payment submitted for work on the project.Maintains the appropriate records.Secondary SupportTroubleshoots as required.Instructs production personnel on operation of new equipment.Issues complete set of drawings, recommended spare parts lists, operating procedures and manuals to Maintenance, Powerhouse, and Production departments.Maintains the appropriate records.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSA Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of experience, or a minimum of 5 years experience with a Masters Degree. Being registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin and supervisory experience are preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
