Specialist III, Claims AM (Property)

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Processes claims as assigned involving losses up to authority granted, with little, if any supervision. In accordance with established procedures, policy coverages and the unfair claims practice acts, conducts or coordinates investigations to evaluate property/liability damages, interview insureds, witnesses, and claimants, secures appropriate documentation pertaining to the claim and prepares the claim for disposition. Uses discretion when engaging independent adjusters, cause and origin experts, obtaining independent medical evaluations, etc., to control expenses. 2. Ensures timely and accurate reserving. Adjust reserves as necessary. 3. Reviews claims to identify fraud. 4. Initiates subrogation activity including investigation, preparation and case submission for pursuit of subrogation investigation to ensure prompt and sufficient recovery of monies expended by the company. 5. Coordinates most aspects of complex claims litigation resulting from assigned claims within their granted level of authority. 6. Notifies underwriting of questionable risks encountered to ensure risks are identified. 7. Pursues a program of personal and professional development including insurance and systems-related courses. 8. Adheres to department quality standards to ensure that they provide the highest level of service. 9. Performs other duties which may include catastrophe team participation and 24-hour on-call service program.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years experience in claims adjustment, general insurance or formal claims training. May be required to be licensed in states serviced. Continuing education courses leading to industry certifications preferred (e.g., AEI, IIA, CPCU). Knowledge of claims investigation techniques, medical terminology and legal aspects of claims.
