JOB TITLE:
Engineer, SR (Highway Design)

PROJECT OVERVIEW:
This Highway Engineer will work on a variety of large roadway design projects (NEON, I-15 South, US 95) within Nevada. Projects include alternatives analysis, preliminary design and final design packages. Majority of the projects are major freeway designs with other projects ranging from intersection to arterial design.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Highway Engineer integrates the various engineering, scheduling, purchasing, construction, and start-up aspects of a small project, or portions of a larger project or study in accordance with contractual obligations. Responsible for the technical excellence of the engineering functions of the project including coordination of technical disciplines, procurement of materials and equipment, and construction planning assistance. Relocation to the project site may be required during construction and start-up activities.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs complex engineering tasks and particularly important engineering work efficiently and accurately.

Extracts engineering information from CAD drawings.

Prepares engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs.

Completes a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes. Frequently interfaces with other Engineering disciplines as well as other departments.

Prepares detailed requisitions for equipment and materials.

Reviews supplier drawing submittals and performs technical bid analyses.

Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.

Provides technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.

May be required to provide the seal and signature of the professional engineer, as appropriate, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances.
May act in an advisory capacity to senior management personnel on engineering related matters.

REQUIREMENTS
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
4-year degree in Engineering (or related field) and 8-10 years of related work experience. Professional Engineer registration is preferred. Nevada Department of Transportation and/or Clark County experience preferred.

SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:
Proficiency in utilizing CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering is required.
