When working for RJ Corman, you will always have the chance to excel and succeed.Essential Job Description:Initiates programs and procedures for the prevention of accidents and injuries at all facilities and work sites within an assigned geographic region, including safe work practices, safety rules, safety training, and ergonomic programs
Coordinates all compliance activities associated with state, federal and local safety regulations, including OSHA, FRA, EPA, and other statutes applicable within the region
Conducts both scheduled and unannounced on-site safety audits at company facilities, as well as safety inspections at major off-site projects (e.g. derailments, or rail-side material delivery operations) within the region. Responds immediately to derailments where suspected dangerous chemicals or commodities are involved. Travels to all company facilities within the region a minimum of once per month and provides regular written reports of findings from facility visits (trip reports)
Coordinates programs for immediate first aid treatment of injured employees, and if needed, transportation to medical facilities. Schedules and monitors first aid, CPR and other related training
Investigates occupational accidents and injuries and suggests any corrective action that may be necessitated
Ensures compliance with regulations concerning hazardous chemicals, including hazardous communications and maintenance of Material Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals used by the companies within the region
Supervises environmental compliance activities at company facilities and work sites
Guides the implementation of disaster and evacuation programs associated with the safety of company employees including directing the procurement of equipment and supplies to facilitate those programs
Presents or provides for safety training required by federal, state or local law and customer requirements, including for example, on-track safety, personal protective equipment and fork lift training. Keeps management informed of any employee certification requirements and impending expirations. Maintains records of training and employee certifications. Training topics will include OSHA-specific and company determined training
Obtains required certification for instruction of Roadway Worker Training (RWT), and provides required FRA-compliant initial and annual training for all employees within the region whose duties involve work on a railroad right-of-way
Assists the Safety Manager in implementation of practices designed to reduce the volume of initial workers’ compensation claims and coordinates regional employee-claimants’ earliest return to work
Maintains written documentation of the company’s overall safety, health and environmental program; establishes goals at least annually for the improvement and maintenance of safety standards with the region
Procures and secures all safety related equipment and apparatuses, including industrial hygiene monitoring equipment
Participates on the dispatch call list to assure prompt response to reported accidents and injuriesBenefit Information:

REQUIREMENTS
Prefer 4-year Health & Safety or Industrial Hygiene related degree
Two to three years experience in the practice of employee safety, preferably within relevant railway, construction site and heavy equipment operations
Specialized knowledge in applicable state and federal safety, health and environmental regulations acquired through experience and/or professional training and education
Demonstrated effectiveness in implementing accident prevention programs, including ergonomics
Computer literate with experience in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation computer programs
Incumbent should possess professional training in teaching and development of adults, or have equivalent work experience
