Regional Industrial Hygiene & Safety Specialist

Ensure implementation and ongoing improvement of Industrial Hygiene, Safety and Health processes and systems within the AC&A U.S. Western Business Unit (BU) consistent with Lafarge priorities and policies as well as compliance with relevant regulations. Serve as a catalyst to promote and maintain a positive safety culture within the BU.

Responsibilities:

Occupational Health
· Manage industrial hygiene program for U.S. Western BU addressing chemical and physical stressors including, but not limited to, crystalline silica, asbestos, noise, welding fumes and other regulated substances to evaluate compliance with Lafarge, OSHA, MSHA, NIOSH, and industry standards.

· Knowledge of analytical methods and results interpretation for industrial hygiene samples.

· Facilitate the development of site-specific occupational health stressor control plans with U.S. Western BU management.

· Conduct qualitative occupational health risk assessments.

· Prepare technical reports to include risk assessments, deficiencies, and recommendations regarding safe work requirements.

· Manage the 3E System to include Material Safety Data Sheets and chemical inventory lists to ensure compliance with the Federal Hazard Communication Standard.

· Communicate lessons learned and best practices with the BU and product line personnel.

· Collaborate with operational management in identifying occupational health and safety needs and help develop objectives compatible with the goals and objectives of Lafarge.

· Support operational management, external consultants, legal support, and customers.


Safety Management
· Direct and advise BU management as a subject matter expert on the implementation, management, and auditing of Health and Safety Management Systems to effect continuous organizational development.

· Provide value added safety and health service to the US Western BU product lines through the implementation of best practices, Lafarge AC&A programs and policies, and coaching of management.

· Analyze and effectively communicate trends in product line accident/injury data to continuously evaluate programs and policies to assure alignment with the BU and corporate health and safety goals and directives.

· Provide expertise for the investigation and analysis of health & safety concerns and incidents, development of corrective actions focused on influencing behavior change and mechanisms to support a culture of continuous improvement.

· Team leader to promote active ownership and leadership for safety / health initiatives, policies, and programs.

· Support the BU Director of Safety and Health to identifying system, program and training needs within the product lines that impact BU safety and health goals and objectives to improve organizational excellence.

· Develop training modules and educational materials for key safety and health initiatives.

· Understand and drive improved safety value added customer service to support the Lafarge performance culture.

· Contribute to the effectiveness of the product line management promoting the Lafarge safety culture, focused on behavioral change and personal accountability.

. Develop and maintain a positive and constructive relationships with BU and product line management, employees and local regulatory agencies, MSHA, OSHA, Fire Departments, etc.

· Monitor federal and state agencies for regulatory changes and advise operations.

· Understanding of behavior based and observational safety program expertise.Job Requirements
Qualification Profile:
· Education preferred: Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene or Safety from an accredited university.

· Professional certification preferred: CIH, CSP, or ability to obtain.

· Experienced preferred: 5-8 years related experience in construction materials industry.

· Excellent field and management communication skills.

· Preferred computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.

· Expert knowledge of ANSI/MSHA/OSHA regulations.
