REGISTERED SURVEYOR

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:Under direction of the Projects & Engineering Division Manager, or designee, performs highly responsible work directing the survey activities required for design and construction of engineering projects. Duties may include, but not be limited to, staff management, providing survey data and legal descriptions where needed, working with the Development Review Committee, etc. Work is performed with a high level of independence and reviewed for results obtained.Note: The job duties illustrated are intended only as examples of the type of work performed by incumbent(s) assigned to the classification. The essential job functions for positions are identified and included with the personnel requisitions submitted by the departments.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Responsible for day to day activities of the Project Management Department’s Survey Section including staff management, employee review and leave approval.
Completes GPS and conventional surveys to support the County GIS/Mapping program.
Provides Topographic/Route Surveys to the Utility Engineering Section.
Provides construction staking and collects record information for in-house construction projects.
Provides boundary surveys and legal descriptions for various County departments; signs and seals documents as a Registered Professional Land Surveyor.
Provides horizontal and vertical survey control to the public; establishes and maintains control points.
Reviews and manages work assignments through the County Supplemental Surveying and Photogrammetry contracts.
Reviews submittals as part of the Development Review Committee.
Performs other duties as requested.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLSKnowledge of the field of surveying, as relates to City, County, or State highway and utility improvement, in accordance with Florida Statutes 21 HH-6, “Minimum Technical Standards”.
Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to engineering and surveying practices for local government.
Knowledge of, and ability to effectively apply, mathematics, algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, the geography of the County.
Knowledge of surveying instruments and methods, principles and practices of land surveying.
Ability to plan, assign, direct and evaluate the work of subordinates.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to accomplish surveys, prepare survey sketches, and sign and seal surveys as a Registered Professional Land Surveyor, in compliance with all requirements of the Florida State Board of Professional Land Surveyors and the Minimum Technical Standard.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Minimum of four (4) years experience in surveying, mapping, design, or construction related to the engineering field. Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience. Current State of Florida registration as a Professional Land Surveyor (may consider active out-of-state license, with the ability to obtain Florida license within six (6) months of employment). Valid Florida driver’s license. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
