Principal Engineer - Civil/Structural Analysis

Business Unit: GE Infrastructure, EnergyFunction: Engineering/ Product DevelopmentResponsibilities: *Be able to determine seismic margins for critical BWR structures and components.
Understand the behavior, analysis and modeling of the effect of long term concrete heating on reactor containment boundary and liner design.
Understand the thermal stresses in the reactor containment due to conditions unique to ESBWR and have the skill to analyze them and resolve over stress conditions.
Expert knowledge of (and ability to define) input loads acting on the Suppression Pool boundary due to SRV, Chugging (CHUG) and Condensation Oscillation (CO) for calculation of containment responses and reactor containment C/S design.
Analyze the ultimate containment capacity for Probabilistic Risk Analysis (PRA).
Analyze the effects of Missiles, Aircraft and Tornado's on large Category I reinforced concrete structures.
Be able to analyze and understand seismic soil structure interactions for large Category I reinforced concrete structures.
Provide technical leadership in Civil/Structural engineering and provide technical interface and guidance between GE and the ESBWR Civil/Structural design contractors.
Ensure that the Civil/Structural design requirements for the ESBWR are properly incorporated in design documents and analyses.
Ensure Civil/Structural design deliverables are issued on schedule and with the required quality to support detailed ESBWR design and Combined Construction and Operating (COL) applications.
Perform receipt inspections on Civil/Structural engineering deliverables and enter them into GE's document control system.
Interface with internal, external customers, licensing, construction contractors and the NRC on technical issues.
Perform work in compliance with policies and procedures.
Support Company initiative: Six Sigma, process improvement and digitization.
Support GE Nuclear Energy quality requirements, including participation in design reviews, initiating and responding to Corrective Action.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: *BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering with 15 or more years of experience in Nuclear Power Plant Civil/Structural design and or construction. *Demonstrated communication, leadership and computer skills.
Registered Professional Engineer.
Have excellent writing and verbal communications skills.
Interface with other ESBWR design disciplines such as arrangements, control and instrumentation, mechanical system design, performance analysis and PRA in order to provide the design contractors with required design information.
Expert knowledge of analysis and design of large Category I reinforced concrete structures to seismic input using finite element codes.
Be familiar with Industrial Codes and Standards and regulatory guidance applicable to Civil Structural Design of Nuclear Power Plants in particular ASME Sec. III, ASCE, AISC, ACI and applicable NRC Reg.
