The Position:
The City of Indio is the largest city in the Coachella Valley with a current population of about 70,000. The population is expected to double in the next decade. Under direction of the Community Development/Building & Safety Director, perform complex work involving the review and examination of the non-structural components of commercial, industrial, and residential building plans for compliance with adopted building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and energy codes, health and safety codes, business and professions codes, zoning codes, and other applicable laws and ordinances.

REQUIREMENTS
Education, Experience and Requirements:
High school graduation or GED and three (3) years of experience in the construction industry and the building trades involving work performed in conformance with standard building codes; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess current Building Inspector Certificate or Building Plans Examiner Certificate issued by the International Conference of Building Officials at time of hire. Required to obtain the Building Plans Examiner Certificate within one year of employment.

Incorporated in May 16, 1930, THE CITY OF INDIO covers 27 square miles, is a bi-cultural community, and currently has a population of 70,000+. Residents enjoy the services of City-operated water and police departments. Indio is a balanced community where one can truly “Resort to Business.” Indio is located in the heart of the Coachella Valley in Riverside County, only 2 hours out of Los Angeles or San Diego. Health Benefits: The City provides an $850 cafeteria benefit plan for the purchase of health, dental, vision and other insurance programs. Cafeteria benefit will increase to $1,200 effective January 1, 2007. Any remaining contributions can be deposited in optional deferred compensation plans, the Altura Federal Credit Union or taxable income.

Life and Long-term Disability Insurance: The City provides all employees with a $50,000 basic group term life insurance policy and a $50,000 AD&D policy. The City provides all employees with a basic Long-term Disability insurance program which pays up to 66% of base salary after a 60-day elimination period.

Sick Leave Program: The City provides an initial bank of 40 hours of sick leave at date of hire and employees earn an additional 3.69 hours of sick leave per pay period (12 days per year) to be used in accordance with the City’s Sick Leave Policy. In addition, the City sponsors a Good Attendance Incentive Program whereby employees are eligible to receive an annual salary bonus based on good attendance.

Retirement Benefits: The City participates in the Public Employee’s Retirement System (PERS) coordinated with Social Security. The City pays the Agency’s and employees share for the 2.7% @ 55 program.

Vacation Leave: The City offers its employees a minimum of two weeks vacation leave (10 days) to start and up to a maximum of five weeks (25 days) based on length of service with the City.

Holidays: The City observes thirteen (13) fixed holidays and employees also receive two (2) personal days.

Employment Information: Employment with the City of Indio will be offered contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination and background investigation. The physical examination is based on medical standards related to the actual position and is paid for by the City.
