Mechanical & Electrical Estimator- Southern, MD

We are a national General Contractor providing complex renovation, TI and design/build construction services around the country. Our clients include both government and institutional facilities across 17 states. We are seeking seasoned construction professionals to estimate multiple mechanical & electrical commercial projects. Scope of ResponsiblitiesPrimary responsibility for performing detailed quantity take-offs and pricing in electrical & mechanical disciplines using a computerized estimating program for indefinite quantity job order contracts.
Attend pre-issuance site visits if necessary to determine existing conditions, develop client needs in detail, and develop preliminary approximations of types of materials to be used and basic quantity counts.Assists in preparing estimates for each delivery order based on technical specifications and drawings or sketches; where feasible provide possible value engineering suggestions.Determine most economical material that conforms to project drawings and specifications.Confirm that all necessary materials and supplies are included in the scope of work and that unnecessary items are excluded.Identify all work items on each job order and estimate quantities of each item.Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for each job order and enter line items into on-site computer containing the Unit Price Book software.Develop pricing for non-scheduled line items.Solicit detailed proposal information from at least three vendors and/or subcontractors with all supporting documentation on equipment, material and labor costs for material or equipment not covered in an industry standard manual or for work to be performed by a subcontractor.Evaluate proposals from vendors and/or subcontractors for compliance with scope of work.
REQUIREMENTS
B.S. degree in construction or engineering or 8 years experience in constructionComputer expertise with estimating systems
Familiarity with construction means and methodsGood understanding of principles, methods, and techniques of mechanical and electrical engineering for performing detailed quantity take-offs.Good oral and written communications skills
