MILL ENGINEER

Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Plant Manager, this position is responsible for monitoring and optimizing the Finish Mill operating and process systems.

Responsibilities:
•Monitor the day-to-day operation of the finish mill systems.
•Diagnose delays in operations - takes appropriate actions to restore correct operating procedures.
•Works with the plant Quality Control Department to meet product specifications and production goals.
•Coordinate projects and maintenance requirements with the plant Maintenance Department.
•Ensure compliance with plant policies & procedures, safety, environmental, state and federal process regulations.
•Participates in Total Quality Management processes.
•Report findings and propose solutions in day-to-day operations based on statistical data.
•Along with the Production Supervisors and Control-Room Operators, ensures production requirements are met.
•Ensures maximum utilization and performance of all finish mill equipment.
•Identify problems in the finish grind area, suggests and follows through on improvements.
•Participates in the Plant on call schedule.
REQUIREMENTS
Skills and Qualifications:
•Detailed knowledge about process equipment interlocking.
•Significant knowledge of chemistry of raw mix, clinker and cement.
•College degree in an engineering discipline.
•Minimum 2 years experience in cement manufacturing or related industry, or completion of EIT training program.
•Working knowledge and technical competency in the cement manufacturing process, with emphasis in the Raw and Finish Milling areas.
•Proficient with window based PC software programs.
•Ability to make timely, critical decisions, often under conditions of uncertainty and stress.
•Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
•Knowledge of MSHA regulations and guidelines.
•Proficient in use of mechanical systems, control systems and diagnostic skills.
•Ability to communicate effectively and interact as a team member in a Total Quality environment.
•Experience supervising in Union environment preferred.
