The Oregon Department of Transportation was established in 1969 to provide a safe, efficient transportation system that supports economic opportunity and livable communities for Oregonians. ODOT develops programs related to Oregon’s system of highways, roads, and bridges; railways; public transportation services; transportation safety programs; driver and vehicle licensing; and motor carrier regulation.

INSPECTOR/CIVIL ENGINEERING SPECIALIST 1

The Inspector/Civil Engineering Specialist 1 is a lead worker on the Project Manager's Crew. This position functions as senior inspectors, survey crew chiefs, office engineers and designers. Crew sizes vary from 5 to 35 employees. The Department of transportation is a team oriented environment. All employees will be expected to participate in team development and team management of their section/crew. The person in this position will function as Senior Inspector on highway construction projects.

As Inspector, you will:
•Monitor contractor's activities for conformance to project plans and specifications.
•Work with contractor to resolve project issues such as ambiguities with plans and specifications, differing site conditions, quality of construction, etc.
•Assure quality of the materials ands workmanship are incorporated into the project.
•Review documentation provided by contractors and suppliers to verify that materials meet specifications.
•Document acceptance with field inspection reports.
•Measure and document work performed by contractor for progress and final payments in accordance with ODOT Policies and Procedures.
•Assist Project Manager, Assistant Project Managers and Lead Inspector in negotiating Contract Change Orders, resolving contractor claims, identifying and tracking force account work.
•Attend training sessions, safety meetings and workshops.
•Act as field liaison between designers and contractors to interpret intent of design and specifications.

The salary for this position is $2922-$4382/month with an excellent benefits package.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications Include:
•A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Transportation-related Engineering and one year civil engineering or surveying experience; OR

•An Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or Surveying from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and two and one-half years of engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group; OR

•Four years of para-professional engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group; OR
•An equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Must have transportation related experience.
