We are a national General Contractor providing complex construction services around the country. Our clients include both government and institutional facilities across 16 states. We are seeking a construction professional to estimate multiple hard bid design build commercial projects. Primary responsibility for performing detailed quantity take-offs and pricing in architectural, electrical, civil/structural and mechanical disciplines using a computerized estimating program for hard bid projects as well as conceptual design build projects around the country.
Position Duties:Attend pre-issuance site visits if necessary to determine existing conditions, develop client needs in detail, and develop preliminary approximations of types of materials to be used and basic quantity counts based on the owner’s requirements.Develop a detailed scope of work based on the site visit and the requirements provided by the client.Develop applicable sketches and compile a set of products required for the job order.
Perform a complete material take-off based on the available drawings and the scope of work.Preparing estimates for each delivery order based on technical specifications and drawings or sketches for job order where design has been completed; where feasible provide possible value engineering suggestions.Determine most economical material that conforms to project drawings and specifications.Confirm that all necessary materials and supplies are included in the scope of work and that unnecessary items are excluded.Perform hard bid estimatesPerform conceptual estimatesPrepare detailed quantity take-offs for each job order and develop an in-house estimate using the actual material costs and regional labor rates.Solicit detailed proposal information from at least three vendors and/or subcontractors with all supporting documentation on equipment, material and labor costs for material or equipment not covered in an industry standard manual or for work to be performed by a subcontractor.Evaluate proposals from vendors and/or subcontractors for compliance with scope of work.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. degree in construction or engineering
Minimum 3+ years of related estimating experience on commercial hard bid projectsComputer expertise with estimating systems
Familiarity with construction means and methodsGood understanding of principles, methods, and techniques of architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering for performing detailed quantity take-offsGood oral and written communications skillsExperienced hard bid and lump sum estimatingExperience with conceptual estimatingExperience with design build process
