Equipment Operator II

The Riverside County Waste Management Department is a leader in the Landfill industry and an entity that knows safe and skillful heavy equipment operators are our most valuable assets. The work of this class is distinguished by the fact that it requires the ability to operate heavy construction equipment which requires a high degree of coordination and skill. This position often works as part of a team performing a variety of landfill work within specific guidelines and the construction of landfill cells and meeting design grades. Each piece of heavy equipment is equipped with a state of the art radio system providing clear communications between Equipment Operators and ground staff. This unique system along with all of the safety programs have been designed for the employee and by the employees of the Department and are now leading the way across the State.
Examples Of Essential Duties:• Operates heavy construction equipment such as motor graders, scrapers, dozers and compactors for Push, Pack and Cover operations under specific guidelines in the construction of landfills.• Prepares, grades, and shapes new landfill cells and other grading projects within the landfill property; checks and sets grades.
• Works from survey stakes, grading plans, and specifications; maintains roads, channels and other facilities.
• Maintains assigned equipment.
• Uses a variety of hand and power tools in performing work.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience: Two years experience in the maintenance or construction of public works facilities such as roads, airports, landfills, or flood control channels which included one year operating motorized heavy construction equipment as a primary duty.A current California Class "A" or "B" Driver's License is required.
