Environmental Services Crew Leader

General Duties and Responsibilities: Install low flow toilets; and associated repair/replacement parts. Knowledge of plumbing fixtures and code requirements for installation are essential. Background in the plumbing trade and knowledge of tools and materials to efficiently retrofit water conservation fixtures and parts are needed in addition. Trains and supervises crew members and assumes responsibility for the quality or work. Assess dwelling for toilet fixtures. Performs minor building maintenance and repair, completes construction projects as required.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Duties may include, but not limited to safe and proper completion of a wide variety of maintenance, repair, and construction projects as listed:
• Inspects dwelling to determine needs for replacement.
• Visits dwellings to assess toilet replacement needs, maintaining compliance with contractual parameters and local code requirements.
• P/U low flow toilets from designated pickup and drop off location.
• Contacts clients, makes appointments for work, and coordinates job schedules in collaboration with Customer Service Worker(s).
• Replaces and installs toilet bowl, tank and associated supply lines and valves.
• Supervises crew members.
• Evaluates the job skills, proficiency and performance of crew members.
• Operates service vehicles (light to medium trucks).
• Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
• Maintains accountability for materials, tools and equipment.
• Purchases locally obtained supplies.
• Maintains adequate supply of materials and tools for scheduled work (supervises checking and stocking of service truck(s) for daily duties).
• Educates customers on the benefits of work completed.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Informs others concerning status of work started and completed.
• Completes Jobsheets/work orders, related paperwork, and inspection checklists, listing work done, materials used, time on the job, miles driven, etc.
• Implements safety program, maintains safe working conditions and assures safe job site operation.
• Inspects and insures completeness and quality of completed work.
• Participates in job training and skills development programs.
Skills and Minimum Qualifications:
• Understand and follow oral and written directions in an independent manner.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to effectively and efficiently plan and organize work activities, set priorities, and identify alternative courses of action.
• Ability to anticipate and resolve problems using sound judgment.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Excellent supervisory skills.
• Excellent English language skills (verbal and written)
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
• The ability to perform plumbing replacement and related repairs working safely, efficiently, and effectively.
• The ability to count and tabulate accurately.
• Knowledge of:
o Uses and purposes of hand/power tools.
o Safe work practices.
o Methods, tools, equipment, and procedures used in plumbing maintenance.
• Commitment to the goal of empowering customers of all ages and backgrounds to attain the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to become self sufficient and to advocate on their own behalf.Training Experience: Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required skills and minimum qualifications, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these skills would be:
• A minimum of three (3) years work experience performing duties comparable to that of a Plumbers Assistant.
Licenses:
• Possession of an appropriate driver’s license; vehicle insurance, and a good driving record.
• Work related license (i.e. Contractors License or Apprentice Certificate from a Trade School)This job specification should not be construed to imply that these requirements are the exclusive standards of the position.
