The Director of Project Estimating will assist in the creation of the Project Estimating Department, which will support the Construction, Development, and Tenant Coordination Departments within the firm. The Director of Project Estimating (and the Estimating team) supports the Construction Department at the Business Unit level. Each unit encompasses up to 70 Regional Shopping Centers. The primary responsibility is the preparation of Project Estimates, the accumulation of project cost and historical data that will be used for estimating of future projects. During pre-development stages the Director of Project Estimating (or his staff) collects as-built information including environmental reports, prepares quantity take-offs of building and site components, prepares estimating work sheet, contacts local authorities concerning building codes and fee structures. Specific project scope will be coordinated with input from leasing and development. For approved projects he/she will be responsible to maintain a file of bid summaries, document standardized historical costs based on building area and specific commodities.
The Job Duties of the Project Engineerinclude:
Produces quantity take-offs of building components, site development components and building areas.
Maintains file of historical costs, and develops database of national costs.
Maintains file of bid summaries
May assist with preparation of Request for Quotations
Responsible for collection of as-built information
Coordinate with leasing and development as necessary to define project scope
May participate in obtaining building and impact fee information from local building authorities and utility companies
Coordinates with in-house environmental staff
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors degree in Construction estimating or related field
5-7 years large project estimating $50M or greater required in retail or mixed use, 7-15 years mixed use, hotel, retail estimating experience preferred. International experience a plus
Ability to understand engineering and construction documents.
Effective communication skills and a demonstrated understanding of building components, budget formats, cost coding, construction management, phasing and estimating on multi use projects of $50M or larger
