DIRECTOR OF CAPITAL PLANNING AND CONSTRUCTION
Longwood University - Office of Capital Planning and Construction Full-Time, Administrative & Professional Faculty, Exempt
Longwood University invites qualified individuals to apply for the Director of Capital Planning and Construction ( full-tome position with benefits). The position is responsible for campus planning, capital program management, as well as major repair and renovation management.
Specific responsibilities include management of all administrative and business functions necessary to support the capital planning and construction functions of the University, including the following:
-Project planning and design:
-Construction management
-Communication and coordination with the University community and outside agencies through the entire project life-cycle.
-Leadership, assistance and professional contract management services in the development of campus, area and precinct framework plans and master plans, as well as the University's six year capital plans;
-Management of the office, as well as supervision and the professional development and training of assigned professionals.
Desired candidate has a strong working knowledge of the following
-architectural design and construction related to higher education facilities including educational, administrative, wet and dry teaching labs, wet and dry research labs, athletic facilities, recreation facilities, libraries, residence halls, dining halls, student centers, parking facilities and utility infrastructure
-knowledge, skill and ability to negotiate agreements for professional contracts and construction contracts
-managerial skills to operate a stand alone business unit
-working knowledge of Uniform State Building Code, National Electrical Code, and other code standards
-strong written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
-experience with project estimating and project scheduling
-professional registration and licensing as an architect or engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia
-Bachelor's of Architecture/Engineering required.
-Master's in Architecture or Engineering is desired (both integrally related to the requirements for registration as cited above);
-experience with historic preservation issues preferred
-proficiency with AUTOCAD software preferred.
