Construction & Property Accountant II
Essential Functions: To provide complete and accurate accounting for Cooperative utility plant property (fixed assets) and capital projects in accordance with standard procedures and RUS requirements; to provide, document, implement and monitor the process for tracking the life cycle of utility plant assets, including acquisition, construction, unitization, modification, depreciation, retirement and disposal, for both financial and tax reporting purposes.
REQUIREMENTS
A four (4) year degree in Accounting, or equivalent, is required. A minimum of two (2) years of applicable work experience can be substituted for 1 year of education. Additional specialized training in electric utility property accounting preferred.
A minimum of 3 years experience required, at least 2 of which MUST be in the area of construction or property accounting. Experience with electric utility plant accounting for both financial and tax reporting purposes preferred. Working knowledge of computerized accounting, budgeting, inventory and projects systems is highly desirable.
Should possess a working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), especially with regard to property accounting. Knowledge of tax accounting concepts with respect to fixed assets desirable. Must become familiar with RUS documents, procedures and reporting. Effective written and oral communication skills required. Should be skilled in areas of organizing, planning and manipulating financial data with speed and accuracy. Should have strong analytical skills and good workpaper techniques. Should be thorough, adaptable and resourceful. Must be able to work with engineering and operations personnel on projects and obtain necessary information to transfer projects to the property records; and to reconcile work orders and contracts and make necessary judgments when information is incomplete. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and/or Lotus 1-2-3 software; familiarity with other Microsoft applications desirable.
Generally accepted office conditions. Moderate overtime is required. Work or travel outside of normal schedule occasionally required, including trips to generation and transmission plant facilities and walking about thereon during physical inventories, inspections, etc.
