Civil engineering work consisting of the research and design of utility system facilities using complex computations and problem-solving skills, detailed sketching, drafting, and computer systems. Provides project management skills on capital utility projects. Provides technical assistance to other departments, contractors, and customers relative to water, wastewater, and gas systems. Makes recommendations on methods of system improvements, developing engineering and labor costs, equipment and material costs, and effects on system design to support recommendations. Prepares cost estimates of major construction and maintenance projects.

Electrical Engineer - Vacancy 06098
Closing Date: September 5, 2006

Electrical engineering work for electric utility consisting of electric distribution and subtransmission line design, electric substation design, and electric system protection and relaying coordination. Performs computations to solve problems using computer programs to complete the work. Performs project management duties for consulting and construction contracts. Performs short- and long-range capital improvement planning and provides budgetary estimates. Reviews and approves construction plans for substation and distribution lines.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in electrical or civil engineering, or related engineering field, from an accredited four-year college or university
Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and team skills
Ability to direct the work of others
Strong analytical and project management skills
Ability to work independently on projects in a timely manner
Good personal computer skills
Valid Tennessee driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in electrical or civil engineering, or related engineering field
Three or more years experience in electrical or civil engineering, or related engineering field, preferably with utilities
Professional Engineer license in Tennessee or FE/EIT certificate
Experience in substation design, street/roadway lighting, master planning, highway relocation, and electric system modeling
Experience in water, gas, and/or wastewater design, master planning, and system modeling
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
Strong personal computer skills including computer-aided drafting, spreadsheet reporting, work processing, presentations, and project management software
