Carpenter/Mason
In the Alabama Army National Guard, the Carpentry and Masonry Specialist performs general heavy carpentry, structural shell, and masonry duties, to include fabrication, erection, maintenance, and repair of rigging devices, trusses, and other structural assemblies. The National Guard depends upon highly skilled Soldiers such as these Specialists to construct critical infrastructure in an efficient and high-quality fashion. Carpenter/Masons in the Guard are highly valued members of the Guard team. Experienced professionals are welcome, but no experience is necessary to join – paid training is provided.
The Alabama Army National Guard is an elite group of Citizen-Soldiers who dedicate a portion of their time to serving their nation. Guard members train part-time to be ready full-time, should their state or nation call them to serve.
Major Duties:
Employs basic carpentry and masonry skillsAssists in building layout, framing, sheathing, fabrication and roofing structuresAssists in erection of rough timber structuresReads and interprets drawings, plans and specificationsRepairs and renovates all types of structures and erects prefabricated buildingsConstructs concrete form work for slabs, walls, and columnsAssists in performance of combat engineer missionsAssists in sawmill set-up and operationInstalls flooring, walls, partitions, siding, roofing, doors, windows, stairs, and interior finishingErects prefabricated and pre-engineered metal structuresDirects operational maintenance on assigned equipmentPerform millwright, head saw operator, and edger functions during sawmill operations
