CONTROLLER - REAL ESTATE & CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

ENTREPRENEURIAL REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT CLIENT, WITH MULTIPLE PROJECTS IN LAND DEVELOPMENT FOR RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL AND OFFICE USE, IS CURRENTLY SEEKING A DYNAMIC HANDS-ON CONTROLLER TO JOIN ITS HOUSTON BASED OFFICE TO LEAD AN ACCOUNTING, FINANCIAL AND TAX TEAM.

HIGHLY VISIBLE ROLE, PROVIDING CRITICAL ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL PLANNING SUPPORT TO SENIOR MANAGEMENT FOR EXECUTION OF ITS STRATEGIC INVESTMENT DECISIONS.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE PROVEN EXPERIENCE IN REAL ESTATE AND CONSTRUCTION ACCOUNTING TO INCLUDE PROPERTY ACQUISITION AND SALES, PROPERTY CONSTRUCTION & IMPROVEMENTS, INVESTMENTS, AND TAXES.

POSITION REPORTS TO SENIOR MANAGEMENT, OFFERING A HIGHLY COMPETITIVE SALARY (D.O.E.) AND BENEFITS PACKAGE


RESPONSIBILITIES:



· Management of day-to-day operations of a multiple staff accounting department

· Financial Statements and Financial Reporting (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow)

· General Ledger (G/L) maintenance, review. Lot closings, including close of escrow and cost of sales entries.

· Month-end close for multiple sets of books

· General Accounting, Property & Construction Cost Accounting, Contract Administration, Property Management

· Accounts Payable (A/P) - Accounts Receivable (A/R)

· Administration of payroll and worker’s compensation policies/reporting/audits. Preparation of year end 1099’s. Vendor file maintenance.

· Budgeting and Planning - Financial & Variance Analysis

· Cash Flow Management.

· Banking transactions, cash reports, loan reports, monthly bank reconciliations, journal entries, account analyses, implement policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and accuracy of cash and lender loans. Supervision over collections and cash receipts

· Interaction with Financing Institutions and JV Partners. Verbal and written lender relations, posting loan closings, accuracy of loan balances and interest payments. Prepare and oversee all loan draws and interface with agents/inspectors through funding. Maintain integrity of lender loans.

· Oversee all real estate property taxes and sales tax compliance.

· Federal & State Tax Returns and estimated payments

· Investor relations and reporting, including spreadsheets, analysis of investor accounts and ROI, and various interest calculations as needed.

· Investment analysis re’ property acquisitions and sale of properties.

· Contract administration and implementation of payment schedules, maintain insurance certificates, course of construction insurance reporting, problem solve and communicate/interface with subcontractors.

· Various forms, state and local. Business licenses, property taxes, insurance and other audits as needed.

· Facilitate interface/review/meet with external accounting and tax consultants, as required

· Supervision of Accounting Staff
REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration

· CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or MBA (Master of Business Administration) a strong plus.

· 7+ years of accounting and financial experience in real estate development, commercial real estate, and construction related business

· Solid understanding of Real Estate and Construction Accounting, and GAAP related principles.

· Thorough understanding of partnership and Sub-S accounting.

· Ability to work within established deadlines.

· Proven supervisory and team-building abilities.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills

· Team oriented, hands on management style, with ability to multi-task and work independently.

· Excellent skills in problem resolution; initiative, resourceful and investigative nature

· Analytical and independent thought process; ability to prioritize and handle confidential and sensitive information.

· Computer literacy with advanced proficiency in QuickBooks, Peachtree, Timberline, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
