BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR (JUNIOR LEVEL)

PARSONS, one of the world’s largest engineering/construction firms, has an opening for a Senior Construction Inspector at our South Capital Street Bridge construction site in Washington, DC.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The successful candidate will perform the complex inspection tasks, including assessing adherence to quality control procedures for concrete and asphalt. Inspects various facets of work on a high profile bridge reconstruction project and performs continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Documents nonconformance and participates in determining appropriate resolution. Willingness to travel and/or to relocate to the field site and availability for varying work schedules/shifts is expected.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:Conducts tests to determine if work has been done in accordance with contract specifications.
Performs civil and structural tests, such as soil compaction, concrete slump, air entrainment, concrete compression and lines and grades surveys.Performs surveillance of concrete deck repair, concrete and asphalt paving and structural concrete pours to ensure quality control standards are maintained.
Checks location of reinforcing steel before placement of concrete.
Provides general inspection on all construction labor and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship.
Performs daily surveillance of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) to ensure compliance with standards and contract documents.Prepares daily inspection reports.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
REQUIREMENTS
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
2-year degree in a technical discipline or construction-related field, or a high school diploma and equivalent work experience, is required.
Also requires 10+ years of related experience on heavy construction projects, as well as formal certification in the following areas:
ACI Level 1 and Level 2 certifications for concrete.MOT, intermediate or advanced.
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications, be familiar with construction-related processes related to area of assignment.
