The Autodesk Location Services (ALS) Sales Engineer manages the technical relationship between Autodesk and the wireless network operator and the wireless location services development community. The goal of this relationship is to win technical preference for a wireless network platform that performs location and application specific functions. The purpose of the core ALS product offers is to support the emerging Location Based Services market. This is done with a privacy management infrastructure and geospatial/application platform, called LocationLogic. LocationLogic provides a privacy management framework, direct connection to wireless Position Determination Equipment (PDE), core Geographic Information Systems (GIS) capabilities, user management and profile management capabilities as well as an overall application strategy.The Sales Engineering role is a unique position which places you on the front lines of a technical solution by creating Proof of Concepts, discovery projects around new features and function, demonstration as well as working directly with our Development community, now about 200 strong. The successful candidate is able to use his/her technical skills to research and create as well as face customers and developers to communicate his/her ideas, technical findings and expertise.Specific functions include:
Provides technical support to a targeted LBS Development Community.
Provides technical writing and communication of complex mobile location solutions
Creates Proof of Concept services and demonstrations on mobile and browser clients
Helps manage and maintain a demonstration and developer sandbox environment.
Participates in face-to-face, phone conference call discussions, email exchanges around the technical integration of Autodesk Location Services products to wireless network elements and developer environments.
Performs technical discovery projects around new trends in location-based services which could include display technologies, content integration, new privacy management models, messaging and multi-media integration and new location technologies.
Maintains detailed understanding of the competitive product capabilities and trends.Helpful experience would include:
Basic understanding of wireless network technologies, with a focus on location infrastructure.
Recent experience and ability in programming and coding that includes creating products, prototypes and working mobile services.
Basic understanding of Java, XML, C#, C/C++, Object Oriented Programming and general Design Patterns. The successful candidate will get a chance to learn and exercise skills in BREW, J2ME, J2EE and GIS technologies;
Understanding of Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE) architectures and technology;
Understanding IP transport and security technologiesOrganizational Culture
This is a technical discovery and developer support position. It is a sole contributor role today in a five person organization, but has the potential of being a management position as the business grows and expands. This implies that the candidate has the ability to communicate the value of Autodesk products by designing and/or developing mobile location solution for our wireless network customers and the development community. This position is at headquarters in San Rafael, but will require travel to customer sites, developer forums, industry events and potentially to Canada and Europe. Extremely strong and passionate candidates outside of the Bay Area will be consideredALS is a collaborative work environment so the candidate must be able to establish credibility with Product Management, Operations and Engineering resources based on his/her industry and customer knowledge. From that, base consensus is created so the customer facing documents, presentations and conversations have the buy-in of the headquarter support organization(s) and are consistent across customers and with product strategies. Since the position could imply remote performance of job duties, we are seeking candidates who are familiar with wireless network operators, candidates who are self starters and can manage daily tasks and deliverables with minimal supervision.Education/Experience/Knowledge
The ideal Sales Engineer candidate should have wireless network experience in systems, product, network or other engineering discipline background. Recent coding experience is highly desirable because developers are creating code against our products and you would be their technical contact. We are willing to look at candidates who may not have detailed wireless experience, if they show a willingness to learn and understand the technologies.
Minimum specific experience includes:
Experience in the Telecommunication market or related industry, primarily as a software developer.
Ability to communicate with developers in their terms to help create technically sound location-based services integrated with Autodesk tools and capabilities.
Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Technical or related college degree required.
