New Business Development Associate Director/Director

The Market Strategies Group (MSG) is responsible for developing and communicating opinions and forecasts on the economy and financial markets. MSG then partners with the rest of Investments to implement these into the portfolio through market positions where practical. MSG also manages the enterprise-wide currency risk position.

MSG focuses on those factors that have the greatest impact on investment performance. These include economic growth, inflation, interest rates, currency rates, credit quality, volatility, spreads and equity markets. MSG partners with internal sector specialists and external parties in developing opinions and forecasts.

•The New Business Development position reports to the MSG Managing Director and will partner with all members of the Investment Planning Board and their organizations.
•Assist the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and Planning Board in expanding Investments’ capabilities across existing and new asset sectors and spread margin businesses and in portfolio management techniques.
•This purposely unstructured position provides a unique, broad and deep growth opportunity for a highly motivated, self-starting individual. This role could be a permanent position or 3-year rotation.
•Continually scan the capital markets and competitive environments in order to proactively identify potential opportunities that expand Investments’ capabilities.
•Build relationships with key external contacts to achieve goals.
•Be the primary liaison between Investments and Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions.
•Make routine quarterly reports to the CIO and Planning Board that summarize and prioritize potential investment opportunities.
•When opportunities are selected for further due diligence, this position will assist the teams assigned by the corresponding Planning Board member in performing such due diligence, culminating in a “go-no go” recommendation to the CIO and Planning Board.
•This position will then assist in the start up of the new opportunity.
REQUIREMENTS
•MBA/CFA preferred
•Strong knowledge of investment asset classes.
•M&A or comparable analytical experience preferred.
•Ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization and outside MetLife.
•Excellent written & oral communication skills.
•Strong teamwork driven attitude – reasonable and flexible.
•Strong organization skills.
•Strong analytical skills and common sense judgement.
•Ability to deal with and make decisions on incomplete and imperfect information.
•Hiring level will be based on experience of select candidate.
