Law Firm Business Development

The Business Development/Marketing Manager supports one or more practice areas and is responsible for creating practice level strategy to develop business with current, prospective and targeted clients by working closely with the department chair(s). This position is also responsible for the development and implementation of marketing and business development initiatives that support the practice strategy as well as providing assistance to the Director of Business Development and Marketing.

Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1.Works closely with the Department Chair(s), Team and Practice Group Leaders to define the strategic direction of the relevant department and practice groups. Drives business development planning and establishes strategic marketing plans in conjunction with department chairs/practice group leaders to achieve marketing and business development objectives. Directs client and market research/analysis for specific practices within the firm.

2.Develops and manages the execution of the marketing and business development programs to achieve stated objectives regarding revenue, profitability, and market share. Manages client events, seminars, trade shows, speaking engagements, public relations and community activities. Plans and oversees execution of promotional activities and collateral including print, electronic media, and direct mail.

3.Identifies cross-selling and other business development opportunities; tracks and evaluates the return on investment. Analyzes marketing and business development programs and adjusts strategy and tactics to increase effectiveness.

4.Manages the CRM database for their assigned practice areas and approves the use of internal and external mailing lists.

5.Manages the practice group's proposal/RFP process and oversees the practice groups marketing budget.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator whose responsibilities include providing coordination and support to the practice ' s business development and new product initiatives and assistance in the planning and execution of all marketing and business development initiatives.

Firm Relationships
The Business Development Manager will work with firm employees and attorneys at all levels.
Key relationships will be with the Department Chair, partners and other attorneys and professionals within the assigned practice, Marketing Department team members, as well as other members of the firm’s administrative staff.

REQUIREMENTS
Education
Undergraduate degree required. MBA or advanced degree in a related field preferred.

Experience
8 to 10 years of solid marketing and business development experience at progressing levels throughout career. Experience in a services environment, preferably professional services, is highly desirable.

* Strong project management abilities including setting priorities, planning, organization, follow-through, delegation and negotiation skills.

* Ability to build, manage and track budgets and analyze ROI.

* Ability and track record of working successfully with high-level executives; ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with attorneys, peers and administrative staff.

* Ability to travel to other locations and events as needed.
