Company: Our client is a highly respected boutique medical engineering firm focused on contracting with medical device, biotechnology, in vitro diagnostic and other medical companies who require high quality, rapid, creative and cost effective development of electro-mechanical products, systems or solutions. The projects range in scope from creating “one-off” feasibility units to final products, ready for transfer to manufacturing, to aiding medical companies in finding development solutions to on-going internal projects.

Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, this company is surrounded by a large number of technology-focused companies ranging from the major market players to start-ups. The nature of the projects are primarily leading edge technologies/platforms and therefore, attractive to a variety of engineering talents to create and implement innovative design and development processes and solutions according to the client’s specifications and medical application. Leading edge technology often requires leading edge solutions based on proven development processes and SOPs to maintain a disciplined and documented approach. Our client has a proven track record, know-how and the years of experience to demonstrate their creative capabilities to deliver results in the highly regulated medical arena, as well as in the biotech/life science markets.

With a solid track record of performance, this organization is ready to move to the next stage of growth with the addition of a creative and experienced Director of Business Development.


Job Description: Our client requires an entrepreneurial, high energy, creative, technically engaged Business Development person who has a demonstrated track record of successfully analyzing, targeting, creating and executing sales and marketing business plans in the medical/biotech markets. This person will be working directly with the CEO/President on a daily basis, as well as finance and the head of engineering. Since many of the projects and companies are leading edge and dynamic in nature, the successful candidate will require a high degree of innovative thinking and creative proposal construction to meet the customers requirements.

This person must develop and execute innovative marketing and lead generation plans for the targeted markets and companies. Additionally, the Business Development Director must focus sales activities in coordination with the marketing plans and create individual sales strategies and tactics for the target companies and qualified accounts that came to fruition during the lead generation process. The successful candidate must demonstrate a history of strong selling skills and awarding winning results.

The candidate must have the experience to lead and orchestrate multi discipline teams (development engineers, design engineers, program management and the executive staff) to effectively communicate the engineering capabilities, skills and unique solutions to the potential customers project; deliver thoughtful and well written, strategically astute proposals; maintain customer relationships and confidence throughout a customer’s project cycle: coach, mentor and rally the project development team to exceed the customer’s expectations throughout the project in regards to on time, high quality results.

The Business Development person will be responsible for recruiting, developing and retaining a dynamic and high-energy marketing and sales team as the business plans are successfully implemented.

In summary, the Business Development Director will be responsible for building/executing a sales and marketing plan, generating a larger presence in the market, qualifying leads, developing well articulated proposals and presentations to the customer, closing the business and maintaining close relationships with key customer staff throughout the project development cycle for potential repeat business and customer testimonials.
REQUIREMENTS
· 10+ years of medical, biotech or IVD capital sales and marketing experience.
· 3+ years of management in marketing and/or sales.
· Business Development experience is a plus.
· Leading a multi disciplined team in the selling process is desirable.
· Engineering and/or product development experience a plus.
· Small company environment experience a plus.
· Technical undergraduate degree with a MBA a plus.
