Function: MarketingPay Type: ExemptPosition Number: 10558151 Dir MarketingEmployee Type: Full Time Shift 1Job Description: Reporting to the Vice President Marketing, Refrigerated Value Added Meats, this position faces an exciting challenge to aggressively grow existing businesses as well as identifying new products that complement the established portfolio. This is an opportunity to refine Tyson’s bacon product’s consumer marketing strategy further by building the category’s brand image to drive sales. This individual will be responsible for developing the short- and long-term marketing plans in line with the overall Sector strategic plans that will build revenue, drive brand awareness, and move the business on an accelerated growth curve. Measures of success include volume, net sales and EBIT; it is truly a P&L role.Specific responsibilities include: Providing leadership to the organization, enrolling others in the strategic vision after first understanding their perspective. Managing the development and execution of the strategic marketing activities needed to achieve financial objectives. Business responsibility includes directing multiple Product Management teams across eleven minor lines and multiple brands to achieve volume and EBIT targets. Identifying, prioritizing, directing, and executing key projects, programs, and initiatives outlined within the business plan. Develops and approves refinements to the plan in response to changing business and competitive conditions. Identifying issues and opportunities for volume, costs and EBIT across portfolio of product segments. Directs, develops and executes action plans to achieve improvement in volume and profits. Reports financial and business results to senior management on monthly and quarterly basis Directing the strategy development, plan execution and evaluation for consumer and trade spending programs. Reviews and directs approval for incremental trade and consumer events targeted to drive incremental volume or respond to competitive threats. Working collaboratively across marketing groups to coordinate promotion events, industry best practices, market research, and development of marketing functional skill sets in an effort to build a “Best in Class” marketing organization.
Leading the consumer insight/knowledge management initiatives to capture major consumer insights that will lead to either product positioning changes or new product introductions. Interacting with Sales to ensure there is alignment and buy-in to the go to market strategies.
Responsible for ensuring R&D, Corporate Marketing, Market Research, and outside Agencies/Vendors efforts are appropriately focused, prioritized, and aligned with the business plan. Directing the demand planning process to provide accurate volume forecasts and incorporate these forecasts in production plans and financial projections. Collaborates with functional support teams to drive process improvements, and streamline activities. Coaching, mentoring, and developing the team underneath this position. This includes conducting regular TEAMS evaluations/development plans for direct reports and facilitating the calibration and consistent execution across the team. Interaction with Pricing/Optimization and decisions for hedging bellies against forward fixed pricing.Qualifications
The Director of Marketing Bacon will be an accomplished, classically trained, brand marketing executive who has had 10 to 15+ years’ successfully guiding strategic marketing, branding and product management efforts for fast-moving consumer goods businesses. Of critical importance is finding someone who has a passion, and significant experience, in Bacon/Smoked Meats market. Additionally, he or she has had a significant impact creating and leveraging brand equity, as well as developing and profitably introducing new products from line extensions and category portfolio management.The core competencies we seek include: Strategic Marketing Acumen: The successful candidate has demonstrated the ability to develop and implement a marketing plan, driving actions from a keen understanding of customer and consumer needs, then providing concise direction to the product management organization to develop profitable solutions. Underpinning this is a record of systematic and analytical approaches toward situation analysis evaluation and the development of specific programs that maintain a perspective on long-term goals while attaining short-term objectives.
Brand Management Skills: Brand and product management skills encompassing brand equity development, category, portfolio, and P&L abilities are keys to success.
New Product Development: The successful candidate will have a proven record identifying trends, developing an array of new product concepts, testing qualitatively among consumers, and guiding the prototype and manufacturing process through to successful launch. He or she will have unerring knack to “fill the funnel and manage the pipeline” as shown by a string of line extension and new product successes. Communication Skills: The successful candidate must be a keen listener, be perceived as open-minded, and have strong interpersonal skills so that the necessary alliances with internal and external groups can be forged and developed quickly. This person must be comfortable communicating both formally and informally with senior executives and communicate openly and equitably with peers and subordinates throughout the organization. Coaching and Mentoring Skills: Tyson is a well-established company that has experienced consistent growth without the typical management upheavals that other companies have experienced. The person stepping into this role must have demonstrated the ability to assess the skills and developmental needs of subordinates and provide appropriate coaching and guidance to maximize these peoples’ efforts and contribution to the company. Leadership Skills: The successful candidate must have strong leadership skills and must be able to create and articulate a vision. He/she must be able to direct the marketing staff and take them to the next level, set priorities, allocate resources, take accountability, and achieve results yet be known for doing this in an “evolutionary” manner. Financial experience in Strategic Market Procurement and Hedging of Commodities.
