Development Buyer
In this position, you will be responsible for identifying, qualifying and managing suppliers for prototype part manufacturing. You will also be responsible for purchasing raw materials and finished goods at the right time and the lowest possible cost. You will work extensively with our Product Development & Production departments.
Responsibilities:
•Work with MRP (standard parts), PRP (custom parts) and MRO (Maintenance Repair Operation) to determine parts needed to be purchased and manufactured, internally or externally
•Draw up Request for Quote (RFQ) for potential new suppliers
•Conduct occasional quality visits, for both current and potential suppliers
•Lead cost reduction efforts and effectively manage cross functional teams
•Develop negotiation strategies
•Analyze global & local economies and market pricing to identify new opportunities
•Conduct quality assessments and visits for both current and potential suppliers
•Review historical use of raw materials and forecast future needs
Qualifications:
•2+ years experience purchasing in a manufacturing environment preferred
•A 2 or 4 year degree in business or engineering is preferred
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Strong knowledge and understanding of quality systems and ISO9001
•Proven ability to lead cost reduction programs using value analyzes, target costing, and negotiation skills
•Strong manufacturing knowledge with extensive machined components experience
•Ability to strategically develop supplier relationships
•Knowledge of inventory controls and logistics
•Strong grasp of contract law and customs regulation
•Ability to perform supplier capability assessments
•Proficient with computer - MRP software (Baan preferably) and MS Office
