CHIEF DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
Summary
The Chief Development Officer plans, organizes and directs all ongoing and special fundraising activities of Bienvenidos Children’s Center including individual giving, annual campaign, major donors, special events and planned giving. Reports to the President & CEO.
Classification: Salary/Exempt
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepares an annual strategic plan for fund development with short- and long-range goals to meet institutional funding objectives, and enlists support from staff, Board of Directors, and key volunteers to develop, implement and evaluate.
2. Is responsible for facilitating the work of the Resource Development Committee and members of the Board of Directors in their fund development activities.
3. Prepares and administers an annual department budget for Resource Development and is responsible for achieving Board-approved budget targets. Prepares [monthly]/quarterly departmental activity reports for submission to the President/CEO and the Resource Development Committee.
4. Identifies potential contributors to special projects and ongoing operations through examination of donor records, individual and corporate contacts, and knowledge of community.
5. Conducts an aggressive personal solicitations program involving the Executive Director, Board of Directors, key volunteers and staff, and UCP client families according to donor interests and relationships.
6. Develops collateral and interpretive materials that will assist in the process of fund raising and public relations.
7. Represents Bienvenidos to the greater Los Angeles community through public presentations and active participation at community events and clubs and associations.
8. Supervise grant writing and Agency newsletter activity.
9. Ensure monitoring Agency Website.
Essential Competencies:
• Fundraising Program Design – Displays evident knowledge of basic fundraising strategies and is able to translate into working formats for staff, Board, volunteers and donors.
• Problem Solving – Can identify and resolve problems in a timely way utilizing information from others; works well in group problem solving situations and can deal with frequent change and unexpected events.
• Project Management – Develops project plans that can be easily understood and implemented and completes projects on time and within budget.
• Oral and written communication – Speaks and writes clearly and persuasively; listens and responds well; has public presentation skills.
• Team Work – Able to build morale and group commitment to goals and objectives.
• Leadership – Inspires and motivates staff and volunteers to perform well; inspires trust and respect and mobilizes others to fulfill the mission of Bienvenidos.
• Strategic thinking – Develops strategies to achieve organization goals; identifies and analyzes outside environment and competition and adapts fundraising activities to changing conditions.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
Four-year college degree and at least 4 years of fundraising experience. At least 2 years of experience in a management position. Knowledge of fundraising software programs. Ability to write written reports and to effectively present information. Public relations and marketing experience needed.
