BUSINESS EXPRESS INFORMATION ARCHITECT

The Department of Small Business Services (SBS), an agency of 250 employees and a $100 million budget, makes it easier for companies in New York City to form, do business and grow by providing direct assistance to business owners, fostering neighborhood development in commercial districts, promoting financial and economic opportunity among minority- and women-owned businesses, and preparing New Yorkers for jobs and linking employers with a skilled and qualified workforce.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
SBS is seeking an Information Architect to work in a vibrant, client-centered agency. The highly-motivated candidate will play a key role as a member of a dynamic team that oversees Business Express, a ground-breaking program recently introduced by Mayor Bloomberg. Business Express is a web portal that will revolutionize the way businesses interact with government, by offering one-stop access to all licenses, permits, incentives, payments and industry-specific information. The result of Business Express - which will be one of the most advanced government websites in the country - will be a significant saving of time, money and energy for local businesses, allowing them to focus their resources on prospering and growing in New York City.
The Information Architect will have primary responsible for ensuring the seamless management and integration of content into the architecture of Business Express, including:
-During the content development phase of the project, assisting with the coordination, the participation of, and collection of information from City and State agencies and others
-Mapping questions and answers generated by end-users to the delivery of the correct license, permit, incentive, general business assistance resource, and other interactive content, including application processes
-Working with content writers and managers at agencies and within the Business Express team to analyze and monitor business process changes and adapt the logical flow of the application to incorporate these changes
-Assist application developers at the Department of Information Technology, consultants, and the Business Express staff at SBS with the ongoing, phased implementation of more robust features and functionality by providing input during the development of new versions of the product
-Communicating and documenting the information architecture needs and status for Business Express to the project team, City agencies, and other stakeholders
-Serving as a resource to the broader Business Express team and SBS as a whole
The Ideal Candidate Will Have Several of These Preferred Skills and Characteristics:
-Excellent project management and communication skills
-Degree or substantial experience in information technology, business administration or a related field
-Experience working with databases
-Demonstrable analytical skills
-Ability to work well in a team environment
-Experience with content management, QA testing or development of a medium or large website a plus
-Familiarity with NYC government agencies a plus
-Entrepreneurial or small business experience a plus
-Experience with the use of rules engines or the development of transactional websites a big plus
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in "1" above; or
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in "1" above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3 _ years.
