Assistant Publishing Business Manager

The Assistant Publishing Business Manager will be responsible for understanding all components of the Magazine and Books segments of the Publishing division to generate monthly financial close journal entries, reconcile balance sheet accounts, and provide relevant variance analysis. Provide analytical support to the Associate Publishing Business Manager during monthly financial close, budgeting and forecasting, and be involved in daily publishing tasks and assist in publishing projects as they arise.
REQUIREMENTS
•Prepare several monthly financial close journal entries, including all printing-related entries, prepaid/accruals, and ad hoc entries•Pricing for paper usage for all publications. Work with Senior Finance Accountant to reconcile paper pricing variances.
•Help Associate Publishing Business Manager in preparing the monthly close book analysis – including advertising analysis, competitive analysis, and account-specific analysis if necessary•Reconcile key balance sheet accounts, generate quarterly “general accrual” analysis, and research specific variances as needed
•Investigate trends in key accounts to update current forecasts (examples include printing cost averages, postage sortations, edit costs per page)
•Responsible for managing monthly and quarterly analyses for the Books, Newspaper and Music segments of the Publishing division – including unit sales and revenue analysis.
•Create financial models to analyze new business opportunities and unique publishing projects
•Provide research and analytical support to any publishing related project.
Qualified candidates should have 2-3 years in a publishing or finance/accounting environment. Strong computer skills (Excel) are required and any PeopleSoft experience is a plus. Candidates should be self-motivated, organized, comfortable managing multiple projects at once. Candidates should also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
