Assistant Director Development

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Assistant Director directly supports development programs at the School of Communication and Theater (SCT) to focus, secure and grow the School's financial resources. Interacts regularly with prospective donors to further relationships with SCT and Temple University. Visits a minimum of six prospects per month for cultivation. Devises and executes follow-up for prospects. Identifies and solicits new prospects, with focus on $1,000 level gifts to increase annual support and create a pipeline for major gift prospects. Organizes alumni events in Philadelphia and other cities as well as donor-related fundraising events in the School, including solicitation of corporate sponsors and program book advertisers for the Law Klein Alumni in the Media Awards. Provides support for the School's Major Gifts Program. Assists with content for alumni newsletters, Web site, and other outreach methods. Produces school-specific direct mail appeals. Manages acknowledgements including thank you notes, stewardship reports and phone calls. Accurately records and presents all prospect activity to the Director and Dean for review. Works with the Director on research, proposal and grant-writing, cultivation, stewardship, strategy development, and correspondence activities. Performs other duties as assigned.


Bachelor's degree and three years related experience, including one to two years experience in front line fund raising or direct sales. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated experience in the areas of: prospect identification and management, personal solicitation, individual, corporation and foundation, stewardship, planned giving, events management, and professional communications.
*Strong writing and presentation skills.
*Demonstrated computer literacy and the ability to use both the Internet and World Wide Web effectively.
*Strong organizational and managerial skills, along with the ability to work in a team environment.
*Ability to travel to off-site locations that may not be accessible via public transportation.

Preferred:
*Direct development experience in a higher education or other nonprofit institution.
*Experience with organizing major events.
