Covance Study Technicians perform an important role in bringing the miracles of medicine to market sooner. Covance offers a great environment in which to build your career - while making a difference in the lives of millions.As a Pathology Technician at Covance, you will perform general necropsy and histology technical tasks in compliance with appropriate SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory guidelines.Our technicians must be proficient in the core duties of necropsy and histology, or must be proficient in either necropsy or histology, and have training in all core duties of the other discipline, plus be proficient in at least one of the additional duties listed:CORE DUTIES:
Necropsy: Collects protocol-specified tissues. Weighs protocol specified organs. Records necropsy data. Performs macroscopic evaluation of tissues. Prepares bone marrow smears.
Histology: Trims wet tissues. Performs tissue processing. Embeds tissues. Sections/microtome. Performs routine staining. Screens/checkout.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES (must perform all duties listed under each category):
Collects and prepares frozen tissues. Collects and prepares electron microscopy samples. Prepares fixatives. Special histology procedures: Prepares frozen sections. Prepares plastic blocks and sections. Performs non-routine staining.
Electron Microscopy (EM) procedures: Processes EM samples. Prepares thick sections. Prepares thin sections. Develops EM photomicrographs.
Data review procedures: Performs necropsy data review. Performs data review and final audit for raw data packages. Performs histopathology data review and report verification. Training procedures: Helps coordinate, develop and implement training manuals. Trains less experienced technicians for documentation practices and technical procedures. Provides feedback to area supervisors on overall performance of trainee.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, or Associate's Degree in Histology, Laboratory Animal Technology, or Veterinary Technology. Experience may be substituted for education.Certified as a histology technician by ASCP or AALAS certification at LaboratoryAt Covance, we help make the miracles of medicine a reality.
