Senior Virology / Microbiology Technician
TITLE: Senior Virology Technician
LOCATION: Columbus
DURATION: Contract to Hire
Our client, located in Columbus, has an immediate need for a Sr. Virology Technician. Job Responsibilities include: Growing up viral stocks; Performing standard viral assays such as plaque and plaque reduction neutralization assays; Working with highly hazardous biological materials in a Biological Safety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory; Supporting and conducting in vivo pathogenicity/toxicity studies; Performing standard microbiological procedures and immunological assays such as ELISA and toxin neutralization assays (TNA) and decontamination of equipment and materials; A mastered understanding of dilutional theory and application as well as mathematical calculations involved in reagent preparation is required; The successful candidate will be capable of contributing to the development and validation of biological assays; Candidate must be willing to handle toxic materials, maintain a laboratory, prepare reagents and order supplies; Candidate must demonstrate the ability to read, understand, write and execute study protocols, methods and SOPs; Candidate will participate in writing reports and publications as needed, and perform assigned technical tasks in a timely manner to include organizing and interpreting scientific data.; Candidate will be expected to use a hands-on approach to solving technical problems and have the ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment; Candidate must be detail orientated, have the ability to follow standard laboratory operating procedures, health and safety guidelines, and work with minimal supervision; Candidate selected will be subject to a security investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain security clearances; Candidate must be able to wear a respirator and have the ability to respond to visual/auditory signals and warnings.
Qualifications Include: Bachelors Degree with 3-5 years of experience in a non academic setting or a Masters Degree with laboratory experience in virology, microbiology or biotechnology; Familiarity with mammalian, bacterial and viral cell culture is required; Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and be willing to be immunized with licensed and FDA approved Investigational New Drugs (IND) recommended for persons at risk to occupational exposure of biological agents, and be willing to participate in periodic drug screening; Candidate must be willing to submit to a security investigation, meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information, and obtain both security clearances within one year of employment; Preference will be given to candidates with advanced technical knowledge involving in vitro assays and experience working with viruses.
Minimum Qualifications Include: Knowledge or training in Good Laboratory Practices (GLP); Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Willingness to learn new skills and expertise; Microsoft Office Experience.Job Requirements
