Senior Bioinformatics Developer

Senior Bioinformatics Developer
Senior Bioinformatics Developer
Our client is a cutting edge Biotechnology / Genetics Research Firm.
We are currently looking for a Senior Bioinformatics Developer to play a lead role in designing and developing the software for our resequencing and de novo assembly software, focused on large genomes and on handling tens to hundreds of related genomes. The successful candidate will have either a strong computer-science/software-development background or a strong bioinformatics background focused on whole genome sequence analysis and/or comparative genomics.

Specifically, candidates with a computer science background should have the following experience:
•B.S. in Computer Science and at least 6 years industry software development experience, or B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science and at least 3 years industry software development experience. Must have 3.9 or higher GPA in Computer Science classes.
•Extensive C++ programming, with expertise in the use of STL classes in storing and manipulating complex data structures. Please provide descriptions or web-access to example software you have developed.
•Expertise and at least 3 years developing software on a Linux or other Unix-based platform, experience with Eclipse a plus.
•Knowledge of bioinformatics, statistics and/or biology a plus, but not required. Experience with instrumentation control or image or signal processing is not relevant for this position. This position provides an opportunity for you to be in the center of the scientific breakthroughs that will come from sequencing and analyzing tens of related genomes at a time (instead of a single “reference” genome per organism), and from generating enough sequence to begin to understand the intricacies of the human genome.
Candidates with a bioinformatics background should have the following experience:
•A Ph.D. in bioinformatics, or a Ph.D. in Computer Science or Mathematics with a bioinformatics focus.
•A research focus and expertise in the algorithms and software for whole genome sequence analysis and/or comparative genomics, beyond just the simple use of software.
•C++ programming experience. Perl scripting experience is not relevant.
•Experience with working and developing software on a Linux or other Unix-based platform.
This position provides an opportunity to tap into the flow of the tens of millions of reads generated each week by our Sequencing Center and our customers, in order to develop new insights and tools in analyzing genome sequencing projects. However, this is not a research position. The goal of this position is to quickly translate insights and understanding into commercial software that is delivered to our customers, and the emphasis will be on the software improvements, not on the specific project discoveries.
