POSITION PURPOSE:
Candidate will be responsible for the design and device integration of RF antenna designs for medical implantable communication systems.
REQUIREMENTS
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the design of implantable, body-worn, and external RF antennas for medical implantable communication systems. Perform electro-magnetic simulations and analysis of prototype antenna designs and develop novel concepts to overcome application constraints. Design and verify antenna matching/filtering circuits and other related RF circuits. Implement designs through to build-up of working prototypes. Perform laboratory measurements and analysis using state of the art RF instrumentation to verify simulated models. Define and lead antenna performance measurements at external test facilities. Prepare and present performance results for these antennae designs to department staff and other internal customers. Engage with communication system developers and recommend system level trade-offs for antenna performance, form factor, packaging and radio system constraints. Provide leadership in general RF design practices, as well as specific area of antenna expertise commensurate with experience level. Develop and maintain a current knowledge of industry practices in miniature antenna systems and advances in technology. Participate in reliability testing of overall communication systems. Conduct simulations of path-loss/propagation for antenna systems (RF port-to-RF port) for various instrument and implant/body-worn configurations.

REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 10+ years direct hands-on experience in Antenna design and RF circuit design. Knowledge of antenna and RF circuit design techniques and simulation tools. Knowledge of EMI and EMC design considerations. Laboratory hands-on practical knowledge of relevant test and measurement equipment for prototyping, debugging, and testing. Must possess a working knowledge of modern radio communication systems. Must be knowledgeable of antenna gain, polarization, efficiency, pattern, and have industry experience in designing antennas that have been manufactured in high volume. BSEE required, MSEE desired.

PREFERRED: Doctorate in Electrical Engineering.
15+ years relevant hands-on experience in antenna and RF circuit design. Knowledge of compact antenna design techniques for dense packaging and integration into products. Laboratory hands-on practical knowledge of relevant test and measurement equipment for prototyping, debugging, and testing. Experience or knowledge of relevant RF manufacturing processes and production RF test techniques. Technical presentation and verbal communication skills. Knowledge and application of electromagnetic techniques such as Finite Difference Time Domain, Method of Moments, Geometrical Theory of Diffraction, Finite Element Methods and Wave Expansion. Medical devices knowledge is a plus.
